While clients often come to us with suspected or verified DSM-5 diagnoses, we focus our attention on understanding the daily experience of the client, rather than emphasizing diagnostic labels. Daily experiences and conditions we often help people with include:
Attention and Impulsivity – ADHD
One of the most frequent complaints of clients who present to us, neurofeedback has helped many clients enjoy robust improvement in this area (including many with active ADHD diagnoses). By working to balance appropriate brain wave amplitudes in the frontal lobes and along the motor strip, we have often had clients improve significantly, without medication.
Mood – Depression
Often, mood difficulties can present as a blend of anxiety and depression. We take an approach that focuses on enhancing the brain’s ability to regulate itself and maintain appropriate arousal of the Sympathetic Nervous System. In doing so, we honor the complexity of the person and her/his emotional state, helping them learn to find cognitive, emotional, and physical calm that promotes improvements in mood. We also maintain an awareness of current research in neuroregulation with regard to drug-resistant depression.
Anxious experiences, cognitive and emotional, start in the body. We help clients become aware of how Sympathetic Nervous System arousal feels in their experiences. Utilizing appropriate neuroregulation protocols, combined with empirically validated mindfulness and mind-body relaxation techniques, we are able to help clients improve their ability to manage anxious feelings and thoughts.
We do not claim to cure any medical or psychological diagnosis. Our work helps the client improve regulation in the brain and body, improving overall wellbeing in ways that transcend traditional diagnostic labels.
